City centre street set to close this weekend for road maintenance

A busy street in the heart of the city centre will close tomorrow for essential road maintenance.

St Vincent Place will shut to all traffic between West Nile Street and George Square until Tuesday (February 11).

This is due to essential gas main improvement works which are set to take place from 8am tomorrow.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area as significant delays are expected.

Diversions will be in place on George Square, North Frederick Street, Cathedral Street, North Hanover Street, Killermont Street and West Nile Street.

Glasgow City Council's Traffic Control and Management team (TRAFFCOM) said: In order to undertake essential gas main improvement works it will be necessary to close St Vincent Place, at the junction with George Square, from Friday 7 February until Tuesday 11 February 2020.

"St Vincent Place, between West Nile Street and George Square will operate in both directions for local access only. Traffic will be marshalled in this section during the closure.

"Significant delays can be expected and especially at peak times."
