City centre 'street party' after coronavirus 10pm curfew dispersed by police

Police broke up a "street party" on Buchanan Street last night as the first weekend of 10pm coronavirus curfews kicked in.

A large gathering of people congregated on city centre streets after bars and pubs closed their doors.

An eyewitness who was in the city centre at the time told Glasgow Live : "I went to Tesco on Ingram Street to get some bits at about 9.50pm and I was shocked.

"There were so many people out on the street, obviously just been kicked out the bars and things around the area.

"There was a queue to get into Tesco and everyone was hurrying to get their carry-outs in. I heard a few people in the queue talking about the flat they were going to for afters.

"It's really worrying - I feel like this was almost inevitable after the curfew came in. People don't want to give up their Friday nights."

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: "We received a report of a large gathering of people on Buchanan Street at around 10.30pm on Saturday, September 26.

"The group dispersed and no further action was required."
