City centre roads closed due to 'concerns for welfare' of man on building

A number of city centre roads were closed off this morning due to 'concerns for the welfare' of a man on top of a building.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Sackville Street at around 6.15am.

A number of roads including Sackville Street, Princess Street and Whitworth Street were closed while police dealt with the incident.

Transport for Greater Manchester said it was also preventing motorists exiting the A57 (M) Mancunian Way at Sackville Street.

The scene was in place for around an hour before the man was brought down safely by police.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 6.15 this morning, we were called to concerns for the welfare of a man on a building on Sackville Street.

"Emergency services attended and the man was brought down safely and taken to hospital.

"Sackville Street, Chorlton Street, Princess Street and Whitworth Street were closed while officers dealt with the incident.

"They have since reopened."
