A number of roads in the city centre have been closed due to concerns over a man who is on top of a multi-storey car park.
Police have cordoned off Bloom Street close to the Gay Village after they were alerted to a man on the roof a car park which overlooks it.
Specialist negotiators are en route to the scene to speak to him police say.
A GMP spokeswoman said: "Shortly before 5.20pm on Friday 24 May 2019, police were called to Chorlton Street Bus Station to reports of concern for the welfare of a man stood on the roof.
"Officers are currently in attendance and specialist negotiators are on route.
"Bloom Street is currently closed at the junctions with Abingdon Street and Chorlton Street."
As well as Bloom Street, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) warned Sackville Street which runs through the Gay village has also been closed.
This is causing delays which are tailing back onto Portland Street and onto Whitworth Street on either side of it, which are both currently heavily congested.
