City centre road turns into tip after rubbish left outside student accommodation

A city centre road was left looking like a tip after piles of rubbish were left outside student accommodation flats.

Pictures taken on Friday (August 30) show a heap of waste along the pavement outside Harbour Court.

The apartment building in Lower Lamb Street provides accommodation for University of Bristol postgraduate students.

Abodus Student Living, who manage the accommodation, said they had an agreement with Bristol Waste to clear the rubbish on Thursday (August 29) as students moved out.

One resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said: "It's just shameful.

"There was glass, bedding, kitchen stuff, cutlery, washing up liquid, shampoo - it's a shame they couldn't have the decency to recycle it."

Tim Newman, who took the photos, added: "It's such a waste. Surely some of that bedding could be used for homeless people in the city."

Clarifying why the rubbish had not been removed from the street, an Abodus spokesman said: "We had an agreement with Bristol Waste to clear the rubbish on Thursday (August 29).

"When we realised the rubbish was still there at 9am on Friday, we contacted Bristol Waste immediately.

"It was all cleared within two hours of that."

Bristol Waste has been contacted for comment.
