The incident resulted in the city centre road being closed for a number of hours and there was a build up of heavy traffic, which began queueing from Trenchard Street to Host Street. The B4051 Upper Maudlin Street was also affected.

Police were called to the scene at around 8am and the road was reopened at 10:30am. A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police told BristolLive they were not aware of any reported injuries and added: "We were called to Colston Street, in Bristol City Centre, this morning (Wednesday 20 July) at around 8am following reports of a collision.

"A bus collided with scaffolding and blocked the road. Traffic was redirected while the bus was removed, and scaffolding secured.

"The road was reopened at 10.30am and we are not aware of any reported injuries.”

In a tweet at around 10:35am, Travelwest confirmed that the road had been reopened, saying: "Colston Street has been reopened in both directions between Host Street and Pipe Lane following the earlier collision."

A spokesperson for First West of England said: "Earlier today, one of our buses was involved in a minor collision with scaffolding on Colston Street. No one was injured.

"The street was closed for a short period of time while we worked with builders to move the scaffolding back into place. The road has now re-opened, and bus services have resumed."
