City centre road cordoned off after reports of 'man on roof of building'

A road in Liverpool city centre was sealed off after reports of a man on the roof of a building.

Police were called to the scene in Mount Pleasant this evening and set up a cordon on part of the road.

It was outside the Tesco Express store and opposite the multi-storey car park.

Merseyside Police confirmed they were dealing with "an ongoing incident" but wouldn't elaborate further.

There were also unconfirmed reports of "a brawl" in Bold Street, in which a man reportedly was knocked to the ground and hit his head.

Two police cars and a Matrix van were said to have been at the scene this evening.

The incidents came as thousands of partygoers descended on the city centre to make the most of the August bank holiday weekend - the first since Covid restrictions were lifted.

Numbers were swelled by the warm weather and other factors such as Liverpool playing Chelsea at home.
