City centre road closed as 10-storey crane is dismantled

Work to dismantle a huge crane in Nottingham city is well under way.

The inside lane of Sheriffs way will be closed until 8am on Sunday, March 22, to ensure its safe removal.

The crane could be seen from many vantage points in the city as it was used to build the vast 10-storey Unity Square building, one of the East Midlands' biggest developments.

Set to open next year, it will accommodate up to 4,000 HM Revenue and Customs staff.

Work was initially planned to take place last weekend (March 14-15) but was postponed for a week.

The lane closed on Saturday, March 21, at 5am and work is expected to continue round the clock.

Some delays are expected as a result of the work carried out.

The move comes as work continues in nearby Canal Street to replace pipes between Castle Boulevard and Carrington Street.
