A major road was closed after a fire ripped through a city centre flat.
Two people were rescued from the blaze at Central Gardens on Benson Street, just off Mount Pleasant, this evening.
Fire fire engines are currently at the scene, where they were called at 6.11pm and arrived four minutes later.

The blaze broke out in a flat on the second floor of the building as people were evacuated.
Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service said two people were led to safety from a neighbouring flat via a ladder and are being assessed by paramedics at the scene.

The fire has now been extinguished but both Benson Street and Mount Pleasant remain closed while firefighters check for hotspots and ventilate the building.
A spokesperson from the fire service said: "Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service is currently in attendance at Central Gardens, Benson Street, in Liverpool.
"Crews were alerted at 6.11pm and on scene at 6.15pm. Five fire engines are currently in attendance as well as the aerial appliance.
"On arrival crews found a fire in a flat on the second floor of the building. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered under rapid deployment and extinguished the fire.
"Two people have been led to safety from a neighbouring flat via a ladder. Paramedics are assessing them and two other people at the scene.
"Firefighters are currently checking for hot spots and ventilating the building."
