City centre restaurant to remain closed until next week after fire

A city centre restaurant which was evacuated following a fire will remain closed until Tuesday next week.

Firefighters were called to Queen Street after 5.30pm on Friday, December 6, to reports of a fire involving an extractor fan outside George's Great British Kitchen .

The road had to be closed for several hours while work took place to bring the incident under control. It eventually reopened at about 10pm.

On Saturday morning, December 7, staff at the restaurant said they were "playing it by ear" as to whether they would open today.

But in a statement, bosses confirmed: "Due to circumstances beyond our control, George's Great British Kitchen, Nottingham, will be closed until Tuesday, December 10."

Nearby restaurants Red's True Barbecue and Bill's were also evacuated last night, however, both were open again today.

George's added in a statement they had tried to contact customers who had made reservations, but anyone with questions or concerns should call 0115 950 5521.
