City centre restaurant Lucha Libre is closing its doors after seven years on Wood Street

Liverpool restaurant Lucha Libre has announced its closure after seven years.

The restaurant, which opened next to FACT in 2012, specialises in authentic Mexican food such as quesadillas, burritos and tacos.

Owners of Lucha Libre have taken to Instagram to share the news, in a statement which read: “It is with a very heavy but happy heart that we are to announce the closure of our baby Lucha Libre.

“Our last day of opening will be Sunday, September 22.

“We started out as a little taco van and now over 7 years on have become a part of an amazing and ever growing food and drink scene here in our wonderful city.

“There’s been a lot of margaritas and tequilas drunk, tacos and burritos ate, hot sauce dares done, life long friends and families made.

“We would like to thank all our guests and local businesses for the support shown over the years and all our wonderful staff past and present we have been so lucky and appreciate everything you have done for us (La Familia).

“Lucha may be closing for now but keep your eyes peeled we may pop back somewhere, somehow, in some way shape or form. Viva Lucha.”

Fans of the restaurant have already expressed sadness at the news, with many asking where they’ll get their Mexican food from now on.

One Twitter user said: “Such a shame! Really enjoyed every visit I’ve made to you”, while another added: “That’s a shame, really enjoyed your food.”

On Instagram, one user said: “Oh no, one of my favourite places to eat! Definitely popping in next week.”

Lucha Libre will close its doors for the final time on September 22.
