City centre rape suspect named by police ahead of court appearance

The man accused of raping a woman in Liverpool city centre was named by police.

Callum Jamieson was charged with rape after a woman was attacked from behind and dragged into bushes on Great Homer Street in the early hours of Sunday, December 1.

The 23-year-old, from Kensington , is being kept in custody until he appears at Liverpool Magistrates Court on Saturday, December 14.

A spokesperson for Merseyside Police said: "We have today, Friday, 13 December, charged a man in connection with the rape of a woman in Liverpool City Centre.

"At approximately 3.30am on Sunday 1 December, a call was received reporting a woman being found in a distressed state in Great Homer Street, having been approached from behind by a man and dragged into bushes.

"Callum Jamieson, 23, of Hampstead Road, Kensington has been charged with rape and remanded in custody to next appear at Liverpool Magistrates Court tomorrow, Saturday, 14 December."
