City centre punch-up caught on film as man floored on busy street

A frantic punch-up, which left a man sparked out on the floor, has been caught on camera after city revellers became violent at the weekend.

The chaotic brawl took place during a busy Saturday night out and footage has captured the moment a man was decked after being struck in the face.

Eyewitnesses confirmed one of the men in the fight already seemed to have a bloody nose from an earlier blow, before another man is knocked to the ground.

The footage caught on camera revealed two men hurtling after another group in the street as onlookers scream for the anarchy to stop.

Police and night wardens helped break up the fight, however a report confirmed today that no arrests were made at the time for the attacks.

The fiery incident took place on Birmingham’s main nighttime thoroughfare, Broad Street, in the early hours of Sunday morning October 3.

It was witnessed by a BirminghamLive reporte r on patrol with wardens in the area after a spate of recent violent incidents.

The scenes began near an ambulance stationed on Broad Street, across from The Brasshouse pub.

The reporter confirmed the scrap was quickly diffused and police cuffed one man.

Another man, who police suspected might have thrown the punch, was also handcuffed but officers later found out he wasn’t the attacker.

All involved were told by police they were free to go after around 40 minutes of questioning. No arrests were made at the time.

On Monday, October 4, West Midlands Police told BirminghamLive it had no record of the incident.

Last month, the force stepped up city centre patrols after a spate of weekend violence ended in three deaths in a month.

One of those who died, Matthew Carroll, 50, was out with his son and his friends who were involved in a fight just off Broad Street at around 1.30am on Sunday, August 29.

He was struck with an object, suffered a fractured skull and died later in hospital.

A 33-year-old man has been charged with manslaughter in connection with Mr Carroll’s death.
