City centre club's licence suspended after 'slash' attack at Champions League after party

A Liverpool club has had its licence suspended after three people received 'slash wounds' in separate incidents.

Representatives from city centre venue Haus were hauled before councillors this morning after Merseyside Police sought a review of its licence.

At least one of the incidents took place at the club's afterparty for the Champion's League final.

A suspension is the most serious step the council's licensing sub-committee could have taken and means the club now can't operate until a full review takes place, which must happen within 28 days.

Today's meeting was closed to press - but public documents show that police felt the club posed a 'significant risk to public safety'.

The documents read: "Due to recent violent incidents at the premises, Merseyside Police believe the premises are associated with serious crime and serious disorder and there is a significant risk to public safety."

A police spokeswoman said that they had 'no option' but to ask for the suspension after the three attacks, which happened last weekend and the weekend before.

She said: "The suspension of the licence means officers can work with owners and management to address any issues that are causing concern, ahead of a full hearing.

"Merseyside Police is committed to making the streets safe and will not tolerate violence at night time venues in our city."

Haus regularly holds house, deep house and techno music nights and offers VIP booths with champagne costing upwards of £100.

Last weekend it hosted an eight hour after party from 12am on Sunday to celebrate Liverpool winning the Champion's League .

A tweet from the venue advertising the event said: "HAUS is getting ready for a busy night TONIGHT!! If you’re out after the final you know where to be, celebrate all the way through until 8am"

Representatives of the club refused to comment on the suspension.

A date for the full licence review has not been set yet.
