A building in Newport city centre is set to be converted into flats after permission was granted by Newport council.
Planners have given the green light to transform 131-132 Lower Dock Street into seven flats this week.
The building is currently the base of Shepherds Christian Bookshop on the ground floor and Creative Carpentry on the top floor.
The application was first submitted by Fine Design Conservation on behalf of building owner Martyn Shepperd in 2019, but had been held up due to concerns over the condition of the lower part of the building.
According to the planning application concerns were raised by the conservation officer over "rotation of the front elevation, cracking to window openings and deterioration of the lintels to the shopfront" which is said to have occurred since May 2018.
It recommended that moves to demolish and reconstruct these elements of the building should start before any other work was carried out.
The application was granted with conditions this week which include demolishing the front facade and constructing a new facade and a rear extension.
The plans are the latest in a number of proposals for housing in Newport city centre. Last month plans were lodged to convert the Victorian building known as Highbury Chambers on Skinner Street into six flats as part of the regeneration of that area of the city.
Plans to turn the former cinema and nightclub at 14-20 Stow Hill into 36 flats were also approved in October, while there are also proposals to turn 24-25 Railway Street, near the station, into four apartments.
