City ban for man who tracked down woman and assaulted her

A thug who followed a woman to the UK and assaulted her has been banned from the city where he tracked her down.

Bristol Crown Court heard Abdelbaset Yaakoub, 25, whose address was given as Liskeard Close in Runcorn, messaged his victim on Facebook from Germany saying he would find her. Yaakoub told her: “I know you are in France, I am in Germany, where do you live, I will find you, don't come to Europe and look for white men."

After arriving in the UK in September last year, Yaakoub headed to Bristol in December, and made enquiries about the woman - initially to no avail. He tried to trace her whereabouts via City of Bristol College, and eventually tracked her down and physically assaulted her.

The court heard Yaakoub had made threats via TikTok messages about the woman acting in a "Western manner" and his ownership of her as "his girl".

On May 27 this year Yaakoub approached the victim, who was with her friend, outside The Three Tuns pub near to the City of Bristol College. Recognising Yaakoub from him pursuing her on social media she filmed him.

He then assaulted her, causing her a mark to the left side of her neck, swelling and reddening to her forehead and grazes to both knees. Yaakoub, 25, from Sudan, pleaded guilty to assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

Judge Mark Horton jailed him for 18 months and handed him a restraining order banning him from Bristol.

Yaakoub's defence team said their client's case was that his relationship with the victim is one from their youth.

He denies stalking her and he claims his application for asylum in the UK was made for genuine reasons and not for the purpose of pursuing the victim.
