Police conclude 'suspicious package' investigation

Police seal off an area near City Police Station to investigate a suspicious package

The contents of a package found in Canberra's city centre were not suspicious, ACT Policing has confirmed.

An area of the city was sealed off to the public on Wednesday morning after a suspicious package was located on London Circuit and police began assessments.

The police bomb squad was called to investigate.

The public exclusion zone included parts of London Circuit, University Avenue, and Knowles Place.

The City Police Station was also closed to members of the public.

However, the nearby ACT Magistrates Court continued operating as normal.

According to eyewitnesses, the package appeared to be located in the courtyard between the Reserve Bank and the City Police Station

The public was asked to avoid the area.

Anyone with information or who may have witnessed any suspicious activity in the area was urged to contact police on 131 444.
