Citizen Unveils Nature Collection Watches Featuring Traditional Japanese Washi Dials

Nature Collection inspired by Japan's culture and nature.

Art has always been a powerful medium of expression, and for Citizen, it takes the form of a celebration of Japan's rich heritage with the launch of their Nature Collection watches. The collection draws inspiration from Japan's vibrant culture, traditional art, and the pristine beauty of nature.

The latest additions to the Nature Collection are the AQ-4100-22W and AQ4106-00W models, both featuring dials made from Washi, a traditional Japanese artisanal paper known for its unique texture and durability. Washi, crafted using ancient techniques passed down through generations, holds a special place in Japanese culture, being used in various art forms such as calligraphy, origami, and printmaking.

The choice of Washi for the dials of these watches was a deliberate one, as it perfectly embodies the essence of the Nature Collection. Lightweight, resilient, and beautiful, Washi paper symbolizes the fusion of nature and artistry.

The AQ-4100-22W model showcases intricate cloisonné patterns inspired by midsummer flowers, while the AQ4106-00W model features a stunning depiction of a golden eagle in flight, paying homage to Citizen's emblem.

Creating Washi dials is a meticulous process that involves selecting the finest materials, pulping, and delicate drying. Citizen collaborated with skilled Washi artisans in Japan to ensure that the dials were not only aesthetically pleasing but also durable for daily wear. Special techniques were employed to make the Washi paper water-resistant and protected by scratch-resistant sapphire crystal.

The watches are housed in Citizen's proprietary Super Titanium cases, known for their strength and lightweight properties. The cases undergo a special surface-hardening treatment, making them five times harder than stainless steel. The hands of the watches are coated with luminescent paint for clear visibility in the dark.

Equipped with Citizen's Eco-Drive technology, the watches boast high-accuracy movements with an annual accuracy of ± 5 seconds. This innovative technology harnesses the power of light to eliminate the need for regular battery changes, making the watches eco-friendly and user-friendly.

The Nature Collection watches by Citizen beautifully blend the ancient art of Washi paper with modern watchmaking, creating a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation.
