Ciro Immobile rages over Celtic penalty claim as Lazio star reacts to defeat

Lazio star Ciro Immobile felt he should have had a penalty in the defeat to Celtic – but admitted he and his team-mates missed too many chances.

Neil Lennon's side secured a first-ever win on Italian soil to go through to the last 32 of the Europa League , a result which almost certainly eliminates the Italians.

Olivier Ntcham's late winner secured all three points but Immobile felt his compatriot, Christopher Jullien , should have conceded a penalty earlier in the second half.

He said after the match: "This is why I never complain about referees in Italy, they're the best.

"I saw the touch (off the hand) even though I was involved in the action but you can't go back.

"For me it was a penalty live but the replays have removed the 1 per cent of doubt I had."

The Italian international, who opened the scoring at the Stadio Olimpico, did admit though that Lazio had failed to take their chances.

He added: "The reality is that we had a lot of chances we didn't take and in the end you pay for that.

"Even after the equaliser we squandered a lot of chances.

"We showed we can play well and mathematically we're not out of it, but it'll be very difficult."

Coach Simone Inzaghi was similarly irritated by the penalty which wasn't awarded.

He told Sky Sport Italia: "The penalty was ridiculous, it would have allowed us to go in front.

"I don't have much to complain about in terms of the way the lads performed but we have to do a mea culpa.

"We had to score the second goal, if you create 23 chances it's not possible just to score one.

"We go home with zero points and are probably out of the Europa League. I'm disappointed considering what we did out on the pitch.

"There's not much to say, I'm disappointed because we had to be more ruthless.

"They have a team with quality, one that never gives up."
