Circus returns to Blaydon this week with lots of socially-distanced clowning around

In true circus fashion, it's a case of the show must go on this week as clowns and acrobats make a return to Blaydon Rugby Club.

The club grounds will be hosting the popular Big Kid Circus from Tuesday as the touring treat stops off for 12 performances over a six-day run, with a £7.99 offer on any seat.

It is also advertising free entry for NHS badge holders.

And it is promising all the usual fun - only this time with social distancing measures in place.

The family-run show had been stuck in Morecambe for months, with lockdown having been implemented two days before its first show of the season was due to launch.

Now back on the road it has just visted Whitburn and will move on to Redcar after its week in Blaydon where, alongside the glitz and glamour, organisers say their Covid-19-secure show will feature 3D holograms instead of live animals.

Because of social distancing requirements, there also will be reduced capacity for the performances so families are encouraged to book in advance.

The circus will launch on August 18 with a 7pm performance and then will follow up with two shows a day and then three on Saturday.

Showtimes will be 3pm and 7pm from Wednesday to Friday; then at 1pm, 4.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday and on its final day - Sunday, August 23 - at 1pm and 3.30pm.

Masks must be worn by everyone in the audience except for children under the age of 11.

To book call 07766 552 211 or see here. Its on-site box office in Blaydon also will be open daily from 10am until 8pm.
