Circus fun as Carmunnock locals enjoy big top Gala Day bash

The circus came to Carmunnock for their annual Gala Day.

The week of celebrations rounded off with a big top bash at the heart of the village.

New queen Matilda Littlejohn led the colourful characters through the streets on her way to being crowned.

Queen Matilda was joined by her Ladies of the Court Eilidh Lawson, Aoife Sweeney, Charlotte Brolly, Hope Maynard and Elise Halliwell.

The Gala Flower Girl Olivia Campbell-Laurie and Page Boy Logan Allan also took to the stage as part of the annual celebration.

Circus Sensible then led an afternoon of shows and a host of craft workshops teaching youngsters how to put on the greatest show – as stilt walkers, clowns, and other fun faces brightened up a rain-soaked

Food and drink on busy stalls filled the big top to keep visitors out of the rain as clouds covered the village.

Kids and adults alike were able to test their skills at some unusual activities, with several youngsters spotted spinning plates and hula-hopping on the Playing Field green.

Children and adults kicked off the fun for all the family with the annual Gala football tournament, the Matthew Craig Memorial School Football Tournament the following day at Locals could also dance their socks off to the toe-tapping tunes of a live Ceilidh band.

The Gala opening concert got the big week off on a high note at the Recreational Club as the Public House Orchestra performed.

Committee member Brendon McIlroy was delighted everyone had fun and said: “It was a great day that everyone was able to enjoy.

“The weather wasn’t the best but we had the big tops, and for the football tournaments it was brighter, which suited us.

“We had a really good response to the circus theme and hopefully it was something different for people!”
