Cineworld Newcastle temporarily closed due to insufficient staff after Test and Trace message

A cinema has had to temporarily close due to insufficient staff following a Test and Trace notification.

Cineworld, at The Gate, in Newcastle, announced on Facebook that it had to shut on Sunday "while we resolve some technical issues".

The company has now confirmed a Test and Trace notification was received and self-isolation guidelines were being followed. As a result, the site has insufficient in-house staff.

However, the firm says there have been no positive cases of coronavirus among its staff.

The site is expected to reopen to customers on Tuesday, July 6.

In a statement, Cineworld told ChronicleLive: "Cineworld Newcastle is temporarily closed due to us having insufficient in-house staff.

"This decision was taken as a precaution based on Government guidelines on self-isolation following a Test and Trace notification.

"However, we can confirm that there have been no positive cases of Covid-19 among any of our current employees.

"The health and wellbeing of our customers and staff has always been our top priority, and we plan to reopen the cinema by tomorrow (July 6th)."
