Cincinnati Bengals waive three players ahead of cut-down day

The Cincinnati Bengals needed to trim the roster to 85 players by the middle of this week to meet the NFL’s requirements.

Monday, the team announced the three players it waived to reach 85:

  • TE Pro Wells
  • WR Reece Horn
  • WR Riley Lees

No surprises on the first wave of cuts as the Bengals trim some names off the back end of the depth chart at strong positions. If the team liked what it saw before cut downs, players let go could always be brought back on things like the practice squad.

Wells is the most notable, mostly because it means Thaddeus Moss continues to make an interesting push at the tight end position with two games left.

This is one of three cut-down days for the NFL this year. The Bengals will have to trim the roster to 80 by Tuesday, August 24 and final cuts down to 53 on August 31.
