Cincinnati Bengals cap space outlook ahead of training camp

Despite some big spending in each of the last two offseasons, some savvy cap work has the Cincinnati Bengals sitting in a good position ahead of training camp.

Various cap estimates have the Bengals sitting on $22-24 million in free space right now. Either way, as Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer pointed out, that number puts the Bengals in at least the top five of all teams.

There aren’t a ton of feasiable ways for the team to make more cap space. In the past, we had suggested the cut of Giovani Bernard, but only cutting C.J. Uzomah (which isn’t happening) would free up notable space now.

But the team shouldn’t need to do that anyway. Any extensions such as one for Jessie Bates won’t move the cap needle that much on this year’s cap anyway.

The cap space does provide some wiggle room to do something like sign an offensive line upgrade such as Morgan Moses, though.
