Cillian Murphy tells how he almost missed out on new starring role in A Quiet Place

Cillian Murphy almost missed out on his new starring role in A Quiet Place II by attempting to send director John Krasinski a "desperate" letter.

The Peaky Blinders star looks almost unrecognisable in the trailor for the horror flick where he is starring alongside Krasinski’s wife, Emily Blunt.

But in an interview with the trio, Krasinski joked that if Cillian Murphy had sent a planned email praising him for his 2018 post-apocalyptic chiller he would have never have cast him in the sequel.

Speaking in the new issue of Total Film, Cork born actor Murphy was revealed he was “blown away” by the first part of A Quiet Place, starring Krasinski, describing it as “unbelievably original”.

The star, 43, who made his name in Danny Boyle’s iconic post-apocalyptic adventure 28 Days Later, told the magazine: “I was like, ‘I’m going to write an email to John Krasinski, because that was an amazing piece of work’.”

“So I wrote the email. And then I was like, ‘Ah, that’s so cheesy,’ and I never sent it.

“A year later, I got a call saying, ‘Would you be interested in A Quiet Place 2?’”

The mastermind behind the movie, Krasinski, admitted he couldn’t resist having a bit of fun when Murphy told him about the email never sent.

He said: “When he told me about that, I joked and said, ‘Well, had I gotten the email, I would have thought you were too forward, and never would have given it to you... too desperate!’”.

Rugged, tattoed and unshaven, unlike his beloved Peaky Blinders character Thomas Shelby, Murphy makes quite a dramatic entrance in the first trailer for A Quiet Place Part II.

Set in a post-apocalyptic US, the movie revolves around a family on the run from aliens who are sensitive to noise, meaning all humans must communicate via sign language to avoid detection.

Following on from the jaw dropping cliff hanger ending, the trailer for part two sees Blunt’s character Evelyn and children Regan played by Millicent Simmonds and Marcus played by Noah Jupe, tiptoeing through the post-apocalyptic landscape as they try not to alert the terrifying noise-sensitive creatures from the first film.

However, things don’t go to plan - and that’s where Murphy’s character appears to comes in.

The clip shows Blunt’s character Evelyn telling him :“There are people out there worth saving,”

To which his character responds, :“The people that are left, they’re not the kind of people worth saving,”

All will be revealed when A Quiet Place Part II is released in cinemas on Friday, March 20.
