Cillian Murphy as the next Bond? Odds slashed on the Peaky Blinders star

Cillian Murphy has had viewers glued to their seats with the latest series of Peaky Blinders hitting TV screens this week - but now the Irishman is being backed to take on one of silver screen’s longest running franchises.

The Cork-born actor has been earning rave reviews for his performance in the hit BBC drama , but now Tommy Shelby could be throwing off the flat cap and putting on the dickie bow of a famous secret service agent after his odds on replacing Daniel Craig as James Bond were slashed.

BoyleSports have this week cut Murphy into the 3/1 joint favourite from 7/1 for the role as Craig plays the spy for the final time in ‘No Time To Die,’ set for cinema release in April next year.

B&M is selling a new Peaky Blinders range

The latest gamble puts the Peaky Blinders star alongside Bodyguard star Richard Madden, who was previously said to be ‘flattered’ to be linked to the role, while Idris Elba remains a popular choice near the head of the betting as the 4/1 third favourite.

Lawrence Lyons, spokesperson for BoyleSports said: “Cillian Murphy’s popularity with punters has clearly peaked this week with a renewed burst of money for him to be named the next Bond after Daniel Craig’s final outing next year. We’ve had to slash him into 3/1 from 7/1 meaning he is now at his shortest price ever to get the nod.”
