Cilla Black died from a "traumatic" head injury following a fall at her home in Spain, an inquest into her death has heard.

The late entertainer and singer was found dead by her son Robert after failing to wake up from an afternoon nap in her Costa del Sol villa. She died of a stroke after the fall, aged 72.

Coroner Andre Rebello paid tribute to Black as a "daughter of Liverpool" who was loved by all of the city's residents.

He recorded the official verdict of accidental death at the 15 minute hearing at Liverpool Coroner's Court.

He referred to Black using her real name, Priscilla Maria Veronica Willis and in conclusion said the medical cause of death was a traumatic head injury caused by the fall.

Addressing her three sons as the 15 minute hearing concluded, he added: "She was your mum and her death is a private personal matter and we have all got one mum.

"It is right that you grieve and remember her."

Black's funeral will take place in Liverpool, her home city, on 20 August. Her body will then be laid to rest as part of a private ceremony in Allerton Cemetery, where her parents are buried.
