Morgan Cibilic is the only Australian surfer left in the New Zealand Pro draw after he beat compatriot Liam O'Brien.

World champions Molly Picklum and Tyler Wright lost their quarter-finals and fellow Australian Jack Robinson was eliminated in the third round as competition resumed at Manu Bay on Saturday after a six-day break.

Five-time world champion Carissa Moore is on track for her first event win since returning to the World Surf League this season as a wildcard.

In the semi-finals she will face fellow Hawaiian Bettylou Sakura Johnson, who eliminated Picklum in their quarter-final.

After losing her first five heats to Picklum, Johnson has now won their past three match-ups.

The 16.33 to 14.27 result on Saturday gave Johnson her first quarter-final win this season.

Brazilian Miguel Pupo, who won Bells Beach at the start of the season, will regain the men's world No.1 ranking after beating Robinson in round three.

Filipe Toledo beat Gabriel Medina for the second successive event, in an all-star heat between two Brazilian world champions. That meant Medina lost the No.1 ranking.

Sawyer Lindblad knocked out Wright and will meet Alyssa Spencer in an all-American semi-final.

Cibilic will surf against Indonesia's Rio Waida in the men's quarters.

The men's and women's titles will be decided on Sunday or Monday, the last day of the event window.
