Ciarán Hinds and Roisin Gallagher to star in new BritBox show 'The Dry' currently filming in Dublin

Ciarán Hinds and Roisin Gallagher are set to star in new BritBox UK comedy-drama series 'The Dry'.

The Belfast born actors will play leading roles in the eight-part series due to be released next year, which is currently filming in Dublin.

Roisin Gallagher plays the leading role of Shiv Sheridan, who returns home to Dublin after years of partying in London.

When she arrives back on Irish shores, she is sober and full of good intentions – but coming home to her family makes staying on "the dry" much harder than she anticipated.

The series will follow Shiv and her family as she attempts to navigate this new phase of her life in addition to the issues all of them don't want to face.

A statement described The Dry as a show that "celebrates the joyful chaos and dark absurdities of family life in a series that is all about recovery."

Other actors featuring in the new BritBox show include Pom Boyd, Siobhán Cullen, Moe Dunford and newcomer Adam Richardson.

The series will be executively produced by Emma Norton and Michael Dawson for Element Pictures, the company behind popular titles such as Normal People and The Favourite, alongside company founders Ed Guiney and Andrew Lowe and writer Nancy Harris.

Of the show, writer Nancy Harris said she's "over the moon" to be working with "this spectacular cast of insanely talented Irish actors."

She added: "It’s a dream collaboration and I can’t wait to bring the BritBox audience this family comedy-drama which pivots on the oxymoron of giving up drink in Ireland.”
