Ciaran Clark left Emirates on crutches as Newcastle braced for another serious injury

Newcastle United have been dealt a fresh injury blow after Ciaran Clark hobbled off the field against Arsenal.

Clark left the Emirates Stadium on crutches after coming off second best after collision during the 4-0 defeat.

He was replaced by Switzerland international Fabian Schar for the closing stages with the centre-back now pushing to start at Crystal Palace next weekend.

After the game Steve Bruce said: “It doesn’t look great, the state of his ankle, leaving the ground on crutches.

“I can’t say now how bad it is, but it’s bad enough.”

Clark was facing assessment back at the training ground today.

Bruce added:  “He’s got a bad one. It doesn’t look good. By the state of his ankle, it looks pretty serious. We’ll know more in next 24-48 hours.”
