Ciaran Clark could be sold as Newcastle United look to close in on Stanley Nsoki

Newcastle United are fielding interest from Crystal Palace and Bristol City for defender Ciaran Clark.

The former Aston Villa man could be moved on if Newcastle land Paris St-Germain defender Stanley Nsoki as Steve Bruce aims to make progress this week on transfers.

An £11million fee for Nsoki has been mooted but PSG want a 20% sell on clause according to sources in France.

Bruce is eager to avoid a deadline day rush on transfers but knows time is running out when it comes to recruitment.

Both Bristol City and Palace have been told Newcastle are looking for a fee in the region of £6million to £7million for the Republic of Ireland centre-back.

Bruce still feels up to four new faces are likely to be needed in time for the big kick off.

But he has been pleased with the backing from Mike Ashley, he said: "I think the biggest thing is Mike has offered his support.

"We have broken the record twice in six months.

"First Miguel Almiron who looks a class player but he needs a goal. Now Joelinton.

"He will be a big hit. He is raw and young and is a big huge athlete who charges around the pitch and will be a fans' favourite.

"These clubs at the top end spending huge money, are difficult to catch.

"This club will hopefully win something. I hope I can get them over the line.

"We have to have a go at one of the trophies and that would be a start."
