Ciara Kelly has been forced to pull out of her 100 Days of Walking challenge after contracting Covid-19 for a second time.
The Newstalk radio presenter previously caught the virus during the first wave back in March 2020, and was one of Ireland’s first well-known figures to have it.
Ciara’s popular walking challenge has many participants and she confirmed that her co-presenter Shane Coleman will take her place while she’s isolating.
She posted a video on Instagram from her bed yesterday explaining what was going on.
She said : “Day 9 of #100daysofwalking. I woke up this morning not feeling well — a bit of a sore throat and burning eyes, and a bit of a hacking cough, and obviously in the middle of a pandemic, so I was a bit fluey and did my antigen test.
“Never mind your 15 minutes, half a second after I did it, the line was stronger than the other line, so I have Covid.
“I have like half a million of you who have the Omicron variant, and for the second time in 100 Days of Walking in two years, I have to stand down. I’m not allowed to go for a walk anyway.
“My lovely pal Shane Coleman is going to step into the breach for me, so we will still have walks, but it won’t be me for a few days. Thank you all for taking part, I will be back, but for now I’m stuck in the room.
“There will still be walks, I just have to stand down for a little while, apologies to all my walking community. I am still with you and I will be back. I feel really terrible about this. Do keep going guys, please.”
