Cian O'Neill joins Cork footballers as a coach

Cork football boss Ronan McCarthy has brought ex-Kildare manager Cian O’Neill on board as a coach.

O’Neill, who works in CIT, is resident on Leeside and has garnered plenty of experience on the inter-county circuit over the past decade.

Having been part of the Tipperary hurling back room team during Liam Sheedy’s first stint in charge, he later worked with Mayo and Kerry footballers, taking in the latter’s 2014 All-Ireland success, before managing his native Kildare for four seasons.

He stepped down from that role after this year’s Championship exit at the hands of Tyrone and McCarthy has moved quickly to secure his services.

The Newbridge man will work alongside McCarthy’s selectors Gary O’Halloran and Sean Hayes.

It has also been announced that Kevin Smith will be joining the management team as strength and conditioning coach.

He previously held a similar role with French rugby outfit Stade Francais.
