Chvrches reward the fans that avoided rock gods Foo Fighters with huge set

How do you respond when you're awarded a slot at the same time as rock gods Foo Fighters? With a massive set that wins the crowd over, of course.

Chvrches were the sub-headliners for the Radio 1 stage on Friday night, and they rewarded those who picked them over Dave Grohl and co with a spellbinding set.

Lauren Mayberry's voice was pitch-perfect throughout, and she is a polished enough performer to even allow herself the chance to spin around and dance on the stage whenever she felt like it.

The Glaswegian band have made their name through catchy, melodic choruses combined with pounding basslines, and in truth they had the crowd in the palm of their hand from the first note.

'The Mother We Share' was a particular highlight, yet in reality they have built up such an impressive arsenal of anthems that you could her fans singing along on near-enough every song.

One funny moment was when Mayberry asked the crowd if they were looking forward to Radio 1 stage headliners Bastille, a band she said were such heavy drinkers that after one night out she had to 'take her liver home in a wheelbarrow'.

If she and the band did have a drink with their counterparts on the evening, they deserved it, they were superb.
