Chvrches announce Edinburgh tour date next year after revealing latest single

Chvrches have announced an Edinburgh stop on their 2022 UK tour after revealing their latest single ‘Good Girls’.

The Scottish band, fronted by Lauren Mayberry, premiered the track on BBC Radio 1 on Monday, describing it as a rebuttal to “misogynistic ideals”.

They also revealed details of a short tour across the country early next year in the run up to their new album Screen Violence - which is due to be released on August 27.

The band will be bringing their classic indie synth pop sound to the Capital’s Corn Exchange on Monday, March 14.

The tour continues with dates in Newcastle, London and Birmingham before ending in Manchester on the 19th.

Chvrches are also due to tour the US later this year, kicking off a massive run of gigs across the Atlantic in Houston on November 9.

Good Girls is the third song from the album to be released after ‘He Said She Said’ and ‘How Not to Drown’ - featuring Robert Smith of The Cure.

Describing the inspiration for the track, Mayberry said: “The opening line (killing your idols is a chore) was something I wrote after listening to some friends arguing about the present day implications of loving certain problematic male artists.

"I was struck by the lengths that people would go to in order to excuse their heroes and how that was so juxtaposed to my own experiences in the world. Women have to constantly justify their right to exist and negotiate for their own space.

"We're told that Bad Things don't happen to Good Girls. That if you curate yourself to fit the ideal - keep yourself small and safe and acceptable - you will be alright, and it's just not true.”

Tickets for the gig go on sale via the band's website on Friday, July 23 from 9:30am.
