If Mary Gorman (Letters, 18 December) goes to Haringey, she would discover churches taking turns to offer a winter night shelter for the homeless. Their guests get an evening meal, washing facilities, clothes, breakfast, and the very best endeavours to secure a permanent home. In one year they were 82% successful.
