Chuckle Brother Paul's anger at BAFTA snub to Barry

Paul Chuckle has expressed his anger after his brother Barry had been left out of the 'In Memorian' section of the BAFTA TV awards 2019.

Barry Elliot died after a battle with cancer  last August, aged 73.

The comedian was one half of the popular Chuckle Brothers double act which entertained generations of TV viewers from the late 80s to the early noughties.

The comedy duo won a BAFTA Special Award just over a decade ago.

But during Sunday night's (May 12) glitzy awards ceremony, fans took to Twitter to questions why Barry had been 'snubbed' from the honour of being mentioned alongside other stars who had passed away in the past year.

A clearly upset Paul responded: "I quite agree my friend. We received our BAFTA's ten years ago. He should have been mentioned."

"Where was Barry Chuckle???" tweeted one fan.

Another said: "Why wasn't Barry Chuckle shown or mentioned in the tribute on @ BAFTA ?when I think of British television and my childhood I think of Chucklevision with Barry and @ PaulChuckle2 ! I’ll say it...thank you Barry and Paul for bringing that happiness into my childhood."

"Sorry @BAFTA though I am loving the show, surely you omitted Barry Chuckle (Elliott) from those we lost in the last year. A much loved TV stalwart of 20 years plus," a tweet read.

A fourth said: "@BAFTA was there a reason as to why Barry Chuckle wasn't mentioned!!!! Shame on you, years of entertainment and you can't even acknowledge him."

In response to one of the above comments, BAFTA's official twitter account responded: "Barry was featured at our Children’s Awards ceremony back in November.

"Owing to the number of people we can recognise at any one time, names are featured within a ceremony only once. Barry’s name is also featured in tonight’s brochure."

Speaking at Marie Curie's annual fundraising campaign, the Great Daffodil Appeal, event in Manchester's Arndale shopping centre earlier this year, 71-year-old Paul said that he thinks about his brother "every day".

"It's just over six months since Barry died and I think about him every day.

"We worked together for 55 years and I feel like he is still beside me. It can be hard sometimes but my memories of Barry and the memories other people share with me do help."

This year's annual BAFTAs TV was held at London's Royal Festival Hall and hosted by Graham Norton.

BBC drama Killing Eve won big on the night scooping three awards including best actress for leading lady Jodie Comer and best drama series.
