Chuck Liddell: B.J. Penn’s fight should be canceled after getting knocked out in brawl

Chuck Liddell often has been criticized for prolonging and taking too much damage in his MMA career, but even he thinks B.J. Penn should not take his next fight.

Videos recently surfaced of Penn getting into multiple altercations with a man at a bar, resulting in him getting knocked out.

With his upcoming fight against Nik Lentz (30-10-2 MMA, 14-7-1 UFC), which Lentz said is going to happen at UFC on ESPN 6 on Oct. 18 in Boston, many are wondering if it’s a good idea for Penn (16-14 MMA, 12-13 UFC) to compete. He has lost a UFC record seven straight fights in a row.

Speaking to TMZ, UFC Hall of Famer and former UFC light heavyweight champion Liddell said Penn’s fight should be canceled.

“I was told he got knocked out,” Liddell said. “If he got knocked out, then I think that cancels the fight. I mean, you’ve got to take some time off after that and recover. He’s going to have to at least postpone it for a little bit.”

“The Iceman” also thinks Penn, and anyone else for that matter, shouldn’t give in to the hecklers. While he admitted he’s never really had that kind of altercation, he personally, wouldn’t take it too seriously.

“I usually have fun with them,” Liddell said. “I don’t get that problem very much and I usually just joke around with them. I have a good time with it, usually.

“It just really isn’t worth it at this point.”
