Chrystia Freeland to leave the FT

Chrystia Freeland, the Financial Times's US managing editor, is to leave, MediaGuardian.co.uk can reveal.

Before moving to the US for the FT, Freeland had been deputy editor and editor of electronic services.

Freeland joined the FT in 1994 and has been UK news editor, Moscow bureau chief and editor of the weekend section.

Her departure could spark a series of changes, with speculation that award-winning markets reporter Gillian Tett and deputy editor Martin Dickson could be given new roles.

Midday update: Tett is to replace Freeland as US managing editor. An FT press release says that Tett will move to New York in September to replace Freeland, who is to take up a role at Thomson Reuters.

4pm update: Lisa MacLeod is to replace Dan Bogler as managing editor, according to an internal briefing email.
