Christy Dignam and family suffer another blow after death of nephew Christopher

Christy Dignam and his family have suffered another devastating blow after the death of the singer’s 27-year-old nephew.

Christopher Dignam Healy, the Aslan singer’s nephew, died suddenly this week. Christy’s daughter Kiera announced her cousin’s death on her social media last night.

She wrote beside his rip.ie death notice: “My little cousin. What a cruel world.” It is understood Christopher died from a suspected heart attack.

Christopher’s death notice reads: “Suddenly but peacefully at the Mater Hospital (aged 27 years) surrounded by his loving family.

Loving father of Ellie Grace and Frankie, beloved son of Therese Dignam and Ed Healy, cherished brother of Ellen and Eric and dear uncle to Penny.

“Sharing in grief, sorrow and loss are his aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family, friends and all who knew and loved him.”

Christopher will repose at Michael Doyle Funeral Home tomorrow between 4pm-6pm, with removal to Glasnevin Crematorium on Saturday at 1pm.

It’s another blow for the Dignam family as over two weeks ago, Christy’s family revealed he was receiving palliative care.

In 2013, the 62-year-old was diagnosed with Amyloidosis, an incurable blood cancer, and had been receiving extensive treatment for the illness.

A statement from the Dignam family said: “Christy & Kathryn Dignam and their family, daughter Kiera, son-in-law Darren, and grandchildren, are sharing an update on Christy’s health, in response to the large number of media enquiries received.

“In July 2022, Christy was admitted to Beaumont Hospital and spent the next six months in the care of the Haematology and Cardiac Care team.

“Since December, Christy has been at home and is being cared for lovingly by family, with the support of a palliative care team.

“The Dignam family thanks everyone for keeping Christy in their thoughts and prayers and asks for privacy at this time.”
