Social media users cringe at Irish accents in new Mayo-set film starring Jamie Dornan, Emily Blunt and Christopher Walken

In terms of major film productions that have been set in Ireland in recent years, Wild Mountain Thyme certainly stands above most due to its impressive cast.

Aside from Oscar-winner Christopher Walken, the drama also boasts one hell of a lineup with Emily Blunt (The Devil Wears Prada, A Quiet Place), Jamie Dornan (The Fall, Fifty Shades of Grey) and Jon Hamm (The Town, Mad Men) all starring too.

Wild Mountain Thyme also features Dearbhla Molloy, Danielle Ryan, and Barry McGovern.

The film is directed by Oscar-winning Moonstruck writer John Patrick Shanley and it tells the story of headstrong farmer Rosemary Muldoon (Blunt), who has her heart set on winning her neighbour Anthony Reilly’s (Jamie Dornan) love.

The problem is Anthony seems to have inherited a family curse and remains oblivious to his beautiful admirer. Stung by his father Tony's (Walken) plans to sell the family farm to his American nephew (Hamm), Anthony is jolted into pursuing his dreams in this comedic and romantic tale.

The film is based on Shanley's own 2014 play Outside Mullingar, which received a Tony nod for Best Play and starred Debra Messing.

Filmed in Mayo, the synopsis for Wild Mountain Thyme states that the film "is set against the breath-taking landscapes of rural Ireland, where everyone is half-mad with loneliness or love, and the weather is terrible.

A few months ago, the production made headlines when West Coast Casting announced that they were looking for extras to star in the film with auditions taking place at the arts centre in Ballina.

Well, for anyone that was in the production, they might be able to spot themselves here.

The first trailer has now been released and after seeing it, we do have some questions about Christopher Walken's Irish accent.

This being said, given the impressive cast on offer, we're certain that Irish viewers will be able to overlook that when Wild Mountain Thyme is released.
