Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey hailed by critics with five-star reviews ahead of UK debut

  • Christopher Nolan's new film, The Odyssey, an adaptation of Homer's classic Greek epic, has garnered widespread critical acclaim, with multiple outlets awarding it five stars.
  • The film features Matt Damon as Odysseus and Tom Holland as Telemachus, supported by a star-studded cast including Anne Hathaway, Robert Pattinson and Zendaya.
  • It now remains to be seen whether The Odyssey, scheduled for release in UK cinemas on Friday 17 July, can match the commercial and awards success of Nolan's Oscar-winning Oppenheimer .
  • The Independent ’s Clarisse Loughrey gave the film five stars, writing: “As a feat of pure adaptation, Nolan has achieved something I admittedly thought was near impossible.”
  • While the majority of reviews are overwhelmingly positive, the Financial Times awarded four stars, with critic Danny Leigh taking issue with Nolan’s dialogue, as well as Holland’s performance.
