Renowned British filmmaker Christopher Nolan achieved a significant milestone in his career by winning his first Oscars on Sunday night. Nolan, 53, received the prestigious award for directing his latest film 'Oppenheimer' and also secured the award for best picture.

Nolan, known for his visionary approach to filmmaking, has been a prominent figure in the industry, earning critical acclaim for his works over the years. Despite previous nominations for 'Dunkirk,' 'Inception,' and 'Memento,' this year marked his first wins at the Oscars.

Expressing his gratitude backstage, Nolan stated, 'Winning this recognition from my peers is the icing on the cake. It's very important to me. It's a wonderful finish to what's been an incredible year.'

'Oppenheimer' also secured the award for best picture and received seven Oscars in total.

During his acceptance speech, Nolan acknowledged the significance of movies in the cultural landscape and thanked the Academy for the honor. He humorously remarked on the weight of the Oscars, quipping, 'It means I can do curls. They're very heavy.'

Nolan's wife and producing partner, Emma Thomas, shared in the celebration, having collaborated with him on numerous successful projects. The couple, who have been working together since 1997, planned to celebrate with their children at the Governors Ball, the official post-show celebration organized by the Academy.

Having been a frontrunner throughout the awards season, Nolan's win was a culmination of his achievements, having previously received accolades from the Directors Guild of America, BAFTA Film Awards, and Golden Globes.

'Oppenheimer,' a three-hour epic exploring the life of American physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, showcased Nolan's signature filmmaking style, characterized by documentary-style lighting and on-location shooting.

Recognized for his contributions to cinema, Nolan has been praised by industry peers, including Martin Scorsese, for his ability to create visually stunning films on a grand scale.
