Christopher Nolan slaps down Anne Hathaway's claim he bans chairs on set

Christopher Nolan has hit back at Anne Hathaway’s claim that he bans chairs on the set of his movies to force actors to work harder.

The 49-year-old British director has rubbished the claim of 37-year-old Anne which she blabbed to Variety magazine last month.

Christopher has directed Anne in the Batman film The Dark Knight Rises in 2012 and the science fiction drama Interstellar in 2014.

However, the director has fired out a statement to reject Anne’s claim that he bans seats form the set of his movies.

A spokesperson for the director barked to E! News: “The only things banned are cell phones (not always successfully) and smoking (very successfully).”

They added: “The chairs Anne was referring to are the directors chairs clustered around the video monitor, allocated on the basis of hierarchy not physical need.

“Chris chooses not to use his but has never banned chairs from the set. Cast and crew can sit wherever and whenever they need and frequently do."

Anne had originally stated during an Actors On Actors chat with Hugh Jackman, hosted by Variety, that the Batman director had a tough approach to running his films.

She claimed: “He doesn't allow chairs, and his reasoning is, if you have chairs, people will sit, and if they're sitting, they're not working.

"I mean, he has these incredible movies in terms of scope and ambition and technical prowess and emotion. It always arrives at the end under schedule and under budget.”

The Devil Wears Prada star added: “I think he's onto something with the chair thing."

Anne’s claim sparked a backlash with fans – with many criticising the claim he won’t allow actors to sit.

One fan tweeted to highlight that the director had frequently worked with 87-year-old acting legend Michael Caine, tweeting: “Nolan please, let him sit down.”
