Christopher Nolan’s Tenet delayed for a second time, Warner Bros confirms

One of the most highly-anticipated films of the year is delayed for a second time, with Christopher Nolan’s Tenet pushed by almost two weeks.

The film, which had already been moved from July 17 to July 31, will now launch on August 12, Warner Bros have said.

It’s a blow to the cinema industry, with movie theatres in England announcing plans to open from July 4 with Tenet lined up as one of the biggest new releases to entice fans back.

The studio said in a statement: “Warner Bros is committed to bringing Tenet to audiences in theatres, on the big screen, when exhibitors are ready and public health officials say it’s time.

“In this moment what we need to be is flexible, and we are not treating this as a traditional movie release. We are choosing to open the movie mid-week to allow audiences to discover the film in their own time, and we plan to play longer, over an extended play period far beyond the norm, to develop a very different yet successful release strategy.”

Tenet is “an action epic evolving from the world of international espionage,” which sees John David Washington’s special agent attempt to prevent a conflict "worse than World War III" through the manipulation of time. The film also stars the likes of Robert Pattinson, Elizabeth Debicki, Clemence Poesy, Kenneth Branagh and Michael Caine.

Fans have been speculating about the film online, with some suggesting it could be linked with Nolan’s mind-bending 2010 movie Inception - read the theory here.
