Christopher Nkunku gives verdict on Chelsea transfer links as Thomas Tuchel issue revealed

Christopher Nkunku has refused to be drawn on transfer rumours linking him to Chelsea and Real Madrid following his promising start to the season for RB Leipzig.

The 23-year-old has netted nine goals in his opening 10 games across all compeititions, including a hat-trick against Manchester City. This is already an improvement on the seven goals he notched in 40 appearances last term.

It has been reported that a move for the former PSG star will cost in excess of £50million. The Bundesliga side are thought to expect a club-record fee for their versatile star, currently held by Liverpool's purchase of Naby Keita for £51m.

Despite the speculation with both the Blues and La Liga giants Real, Nkunku is only focussed on his goals for this season.

He told Bild (via Sport Witness): “If I was thinking of other clubs, we might as well forget our season goals. Big goals of our own are only realistic if we achieve something with Leipzig. Otherwise, these questions do not arise.

"I still have a contract until 2024 and I feel very comfortable at RB Leipzig.”

The midfielder has worked with Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel before, but that may not work to the Blues' advantage.

The German coach was behind Nkunku's departure from the Parc de Princes.

Talking to Canal Plus, the Frenchman has previously said: “The arrival of Tuchel made me think.

“The fact of starting a season without really knowing what role you are going to have, it’s quite complicated. There comes a time when you come to the end of your contract and you have one year left, either you extend or you leave, I made the choice to simply leave.”
