Christopher Kane designs T-shirt to fight heart disease

Christopher Kane has designed a brightly coloured t-shirt for Heart Research UK.

The designer, whose boundary pushing silhouettes have been worn by everyone from Florence Welch to Michelle Obama, has turned his hand to t-shirt creating for a good cause.

Kane has designed the collection to raise awareness for the charity, after his brother died from a heart attack last year.

The Glaswegian is particularly vocal about changing attitudes towards heart disease in his native Scotland. Coronary heart disease is Scotland’s single biggest killer, accounting for 27 per cent of all deaths.

“Growing up in Scotland in a working class environment, heart disease was always prevalent. So many of my parent’s family and friends passed at an early age from “heart attacks” and no one blinked an eye."

The Heart of Scotland campaign is supported by roster of politicians and celebrities including Nicola Sturgon and the Secretary of State for Scotland David Mundell, who said: “It is a sobering thought that today, just here in Scotland, 41 people will die because of a heart condition. And tomorrow, another 41. And the next day, and every subsequent day, the same.”

The t-shirt comes in black and white and features a multi coloured diagram of a human heart, emblazoned with the words ‘Help’, ‘Care’, ‘Love’, ‘Brave’, ‘Life’, ‘Heart’.

All sustainably manufactured in Hertfordshire, the quality of the t-shirts was of the utmost importance to Kane. Speaking to Vogue, he said: “People are buying a little piece of Christopher Kane, so the quality has to be good.”

The t-shirts cost £19.95 and all proceeds go to Heart Research UK.
