Christopher Jullien Celtic vs Rangers mystery as Stephen Welsh rumours gain traction

Stephen Welsh is rumoured to be starting against Rangers this afternoon amid fears Christopher Jullien is ruled out through injury.

With Nir Bitton and Hatem Abd Elhamed testing positive for coronavirus on international duty with Israel, a back three of Kris Ajer, Shane Duffy and Jullien seems the obvious choice if Neil Lennon wants to keep his preferred formation.

But the Frenchman has struggled for fitness in the last month or so and there is claims he will miss the first Glasgow derby of the season as he was not pictured in training at Lennoxtown on Friday.

And another rumour doing the rounds is that Welsh is on the verge of taking his place in the side.

The 20-year-old has not made an appearance this term, but has been tipped to have a bright future at Parkhead.

He spent the first half of last season on loan with Morton, before impressing in a convincing 4-1 win over Hamilton in February. But that was his solitary game for the Hoops before the campaign was curtailed.

Lennon has been known to suprise Celtic fans with his starting XI in recent months, but this one would be the biggest to date.

Celtic have been decimated with injuries and players testing positive for the virus in the lead up to the game.

Ryan Christie has been ruled out, along with Bitton and Elhamed, despite a late push from the club to have his period of isolation cut short.

And Odsonne Edouard remains a doubt after arriving back in Glasgow yesterday after a ten-day quarantine in France.
