Christopher Jullien admits Celtic winner surprise as he reflects on 'best day of my life'

Celtic hero Christopher Jullien admits he never expected to receive the ball for his winning goal in the Betfred Cup final - far less score with his feet.

The Hoops were under the cosh against Rangers but midway through the second half the French centre-back managed to get on the end of Ryan Christie 's free-kick to knock in the winner.

The former Toulouse man is known for his aerial prowess but admits he never expected to grab a cup final winner with his feet.

Jullien said: "Every time I go up, I’m looking to head the ball, but I didn’t think it would come through to me.

"When I saw it sit up for me I just reacted and it went in.

“I can’t describe the moment. I knew when it went in that there was a lot of time left in the game. I knew I couldn’t get carried away because I had to be really focused for the time left in the game. I’m really happy that goal got us the win today.

"My friends and family know how much this meant to me.

"I want to win and at my last club we weren’t able to achieve anything like this. Coming here and playing with the fantastic club and these players has been unbelievable.

“This is my first trophy and to do it at a club with these players, staff and fans is just unbelievable. I’m so happy right now. I’m going to enjoy tonight and then see what happens next. We’re going to enjoy this trophy but we know the season is long and we have a lot of games to play. This is just the beginning.

“This goal is the one that means the most to me. The one against Lazio was huge in my career but this one is the best because it gave me my trophy. It’s for sure the best day of my life in terms of what I’ve achieved in football.”
