Christopher Johnson’s not-so-ringing endorsement to Jets fan caught on video

Jets CEO Christopher Johnson can’t be happy with his team’s 1-6 start to the season, and he said as much to a fan before the Jets’ Week 8 game against the Jaguars.

“Hopefully the team will actually show up this week,” Johnson said this past Sunday in a video captured by a fan.

Spoiler alert: They didn’t.

After a touchdown drive in the first quarter, the Jets failed to muster much of an offense the rest of the game and couldn’t stop Gardner Minshew II and the Jaguars. Though they battled back to within one score late in the game, another critical turnover by Sam Darnold ended all hopes for a Jets comeback. New York fell to 1-6 on the season with a 29-15 loss.

The Jets are 10-29 since Johnson took over for his brother and majority owner Woody in 2017, and has endured countless missteps along the way. This season was supposed to be different with a new coach and new general manager, but so far it’s just been much of the same.

This is a passive-aggressive negative criticism by Johnson, who has not spoken to the media this season. With Adam Gase at the helm, the Jets are averaging the fewest points per game (11.1) in franchise history and rank 31st in points scored and 32nd in yards, respectively. Darnold looks to be regressing behind a porous offensive line and is averaging two interceptions per game. The defense isn’t much better, giving up 26.4 points per game.

Johnson will have to wait another week for the Jets to show up, though they will have their best shot at a team arguably worse than them in almost every facet – the 0-7 Miami Dolphins. If the Jets can’t put together a quasi-complete game against one of the worst teams in NFL history, Johnson may have an even bigger problem on his hands.
